Cartable Characters

Ft Collins Children’s Theatre Traveling Theatre Troupe

Contact: Karen Christophersen

Mission Statement:

To provide family-appropriate live theatre as an outreach program to entertain and exercise the imagination of children, nurture cultural appreciation, and promote Fort Collins Children’s Theatre.

Program Particulars:

A company of about 5 or 6 local performers (young adults to “young at heart” adults) rehearse once a week to play and improvise, building on short scripts to bring a tale to life.

We use original scripts of adapted folktales, and each season we develop and perform 2 tales, currently for 2013; “Goldy and the Bears” and “Little Red Riding Hood.” 4 to 5 actors perform at a time, including a Director/Facilitator and 1 or 2 “Foley Artists” (sound effects), to tell a tale and include songs, jokes and audience participation.

Our set is a ladder and stools, our costumes are carried in bags, thus the name “cartable” characters. (You never know when a story could break out!) We can easily adapt our stories to include content that is important or specific to your school or learning situation!

We began in the spring of 2010, enjoying two summers of great success with Beet Street’s “Streetmosphere.” We are now in our second season of performing at schools (family nights or assemblies) and other community events (ARO, Base Camp) throughout the rest of the year.

Contact Karen at kchristo61@gmail.com to inquire about availability for performance, or how to join the company!
