The annual “fall production” is generally a musical for the entire family, and has been performed in November on the main stage (capacity 1180) at The Lincoln Center since 1978. Before that, starting in 1958, the productions were performed in various schools. The “fall production” cast is selected by public auditions held in August or early September, and includes adult and younger actors, depending on the show. Past productions have included such classic favorites as: Cinderella, Peter Pan, The Wizard of Oz, Oliver!, The Sound of Music, Narnia, Aladdin’s Lamp, Pinocchio, The Wind in the Willows, The Hobbit, The Enchantment of Beauty and the Beast, Alice in Wonderland, and The Velveteen Rabbit. The production team includes professional directors, designers, technicians, and musicians, who bring the shows to life on a grand scale, with elaborate sets, costumes, special effects, and props. Those selected to be in these shows include talented adults from the community playing the “adult” roles, joined by teens and children (sometimes as young as 10-12) who want to perform before large audiences, and who are capable of filling supporting roles. Many of the “fall production” cast members have been alumni of the Peanut Butter and Jam Revue summer programs, as well as the more-recently formed Cartable Characters improvisational touring company. Rehearsals currently last 6-8 weeks, culminating with five performances over one weekend.
